CANNOBIO

As CANNOBIO is situated on the Piedmont Region coast of the Lago Maggiore in the Province of Novara, it is the first Italian town on the raad which connects Italy to northern Europe through the San Gottardo and San Bernardino Passes.
It is literally a geographical and cultural "borderland" situated between the Piedmont and Lombardy in Italy and the Ticine of Switzerland.
Each area has in turn given home of its spirit and added a cultural overlay to the historical development, contributing to an environment of considerable touristic attraction.

The Cannobio Lido is one of the few wide beaches along the Lago Maggiore and it has a substantial backshore parkland area shaded by old poplars.
The wet beach is good for swimming and the offshore waters offer the best conditions on the lake for sailing and water sports, owing to a narrowing of the waters pressed by mountains on either side.
Cannobio has become a well-know place for surf sailing and also attracts many people who simply enjoy the regenerative feeling obtained from being near mountains and especially, water. Cannobio has two harbours allowing mooring and docking of boats with launch ramps and rentals available.
For other sports, in addition to several private facilities including clay pigeon shooting, there is a sports centre with tennis courts, soccer fields and athletic tracks.
For walks there are well-marked paths in this part of Italy and one can make hikes into scenic and wild mountain places experiencing beautiful vistas. The less travelled roads offer many possibilities for mountain biking.
